Headaches are Very Common

Headaches are a common occurence for individuals thet work at a desk and stay in one position for prolonged periods of time. The two most common types of headacehs are Cervicogenic and Tension-type, both of which respond well to our sports chiropractic approach. Although these are the two most common types of headaches, we also treat: Stress Headaches, Sinus Headaches, Migraines, and Chronic Headaches.

What are Cervicogenic Headaches?

Cervicogenic Headaches are generally described as one sided, starting at the base of the neck and warpping over the top fo the head. Cervicogenic Headaches are caused by dysfunction of the joints and muscles of the neck, so most patients also have neck pain and lmiimted range of motion. These types of headaches are commonly caused by trauma such as a fall or motor vehicle accident, as well as poor posture and faulty movement patterns. 

What are Tension-type Headaches

Headaches from increased muscle tension and tightness are the most common types to come into our clinic. They tend to plague a majority of the population from office workers to manual laborers. Tension headaches usually start at the base of the skull in the occipital muscles and moves around both sides of the skull before settling behind one or both eyes. It is genrally described as a tight band around the head. The most common muscles to cause these types of headaches are:

 

  • Upper Traps
  • Levator Scapulae
  • Occiptal muscles
  • Cervical Paraspinals
  • Temporalis
  • Masseter
