What is Post-Surgical Rehabilitation?
Post-surgical rehabilitation is an individualized therapeutic program that helps in the recovery after a surgical procedure. For most people, the thought of having a surgery can seem overwhelming and the thought of the recovery from the surgery can seem like mountain of uncertainty. At Lincoln Performance and Sports Medicine, we will walk with you along the journey each step of the way.
The fact is that no individual will respond and recover from a surgery the exact same way as someone else. Therefore, we do not use a cookie-cutter approach and give each person the exact same treatments and exercises. Each patient is treated as an individual, and a plan of care is established based on a thorough initial evaluation, activity level and pre-surgery condition and patient specific goals for recovery.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of post-surgical rehabilitation include:
1. Reduce pain and inflammation
2. Promote healing
3. Reduce scar tissue and adhesions
4. Increase mobility and flexibility
5. Strengthen muscles and enhance movement patterns
6. Reduce the risk of complications
Rehabilitation will typically start slow, initially focusing on 1-4 and evaluating progress at each visit. As the patient’s condition improves, the complexity and intensity of treatment and exercises will increase.
